  • Harry Leroy "Roy" Halladay (b. May 14, 1977 – d. November 7, 2017 at age 40), nicknamed "Doc", is a former professional baseball player who pitched in MLB for the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies between 1998 and 2013. His nickname, coined by Toronto Blue Jays announcer Tom Cheek, is a reference to Wild West gunslinger "Doc" Holliday.

He was the Blue Jays' first draft selection in the 1995 MLB Draft, the 17th pick overall, and played for the team from 1998 through 2009, after which he was traded to Philadelphia. Halladay is known for his ability to pitch deep into games effectively and, at the time of his retirement, was the current active major league leader in complete games with 67, including 20 shutouts.

On May 29, 2010, Halladay pitched the 20th perfect game in MLB history, beating the Florida Marlins by a score of 1–0. On October 6, 2010, in his first post-season start, Halladay threw the second no-hitter in MLB postseason history (Don Larsen's perfect game in the 1956 World Series being the first) against the Cincinnati Reds in Game 1 of the 2010 NLDS.

During the 2012 season, he became the 67th pitcher to record 2,000 strikeouts. Halladay is also one of only five pitchers in MLB history to win the Cy Young Award in both the American and National Leagues.

On November 7, 2017, Halladay died when the new 2018 model ICON A5 amphibious aircraft in which he was flying crashed into the Gulf of Mexico. Halladay is presumed to have been piloting the plane, given that he is reported to have been the only person onboard at the time of the crash. The crash was reported to have happened about 10 miles off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida in water 6 feet deep. The Pasco County Sheriff's Office Marine Unit responded to the accident after a call at noon, reporting a sport plane having crashed upside down into shallow water. The plane was reported to be Halladay's, and he had tweeted in the past about his excitement about acquiring the plane, which was reportedly registered in the name of Halladay's father, a retired commercial pilot.

In this instance, however, I must content myself withthe statement of a problem for which the solution is yet to be found. Two kinds of phosi)hale rock are now being mined in bdorida, the land peb-ble and the hard rock. The deposits which carry the hard rock phosphate arefound o\er a considerable extent of country in the western part of the centralpeninsular Ilorida. The area includes the southern part of Columbia and Suwan-nee Counties, the western part of Alachua and Marion Counties, the eastern partof Levy, Citrus and Hernando Counties, and the northern part of Pasco County. From north to south the hard rock area extends through a distance of about 100miles. Its* width from east to west is variable. The greatest width is found inMarion County, almost the whole of the western half of this county being included *State Geologist of Florida.

  • Taken in February, 1985, this sign was placed after the intersection of US 19 and Pasco County route 595 in Holiday was reconstructed. This was the first indication to me that the colored US shields were being phased out. I can still remember somebody in the car saying “what are you taking a picture of?”
